Love Your Frames But Don’t Want To Buy New Glasses? – Here’s How You Can ‘Reglaze’ Them

You’ve got your favourite pair of glasses; they fit perfectly, suit your face, and somehow have survived a hardy (or gentle) life, and you paid the earth for them – maybe.

Then your prescription changes.

Most people assume that means buying completely new glasses, having to part with the current perfect pair – but often there’s another option: reglazing.

So… what is reglazing?

Reglazing is the process of replacing the lenses in your existing glasses while keeping the frame you already love. Instead of starting again, we carefully remove your old lenses and fit brand-new custom lenses into your current frame. That means you can keep your favourite look while upgrading the part that matters most – your vision.

Or, on the other hand – you have perfect lenses but your frame has broken! In most cases, we can find a similar or ever so slightly smaller frame so that we can cut the lens down to fit into the new frame.

When we say ‘most cases’ – your lenses are custom fitted to the original frame. Progressives and other custom fitted lenses are difficult as it can alter the focal points on the lens, but most single vision (distance/intermediate/reading) lenses, we can reglaze.

‘I went to *Optometrist* and they say they can’t do reglazing?’

We hear this a lot and don’t worry – it doesn’t always mean your frames can’t be saved.

Every practice has different policies and not all offer reglazing services. The good news? This is a very popular service that we provide and it is highly sustainable!

Why do people choose reglazing?

Keep the frames you already love

Some frames are impossible to replace – whether they’re your favourite style, fit just right, or simply feel like they’re part of the furniture! Reglazing lets you keep wearing them.

Refresh your vision without replacing everything

Changed prescription? Want thinner lenses? Need better clarity at night? Reglazing gives your glasses a fresh start without changing your whole look.

A more sustainable choice

Good frames shouldn’t always end up in a drawer. Reglazing can help extend the life of your eyewear and reduce unnecessary waste.

Upgrade your lenses while you’re at it

New lenses don’t just mean updated vision. You may also choose features such as:

  • Anti-reflective coatings for clearer vision
  • UV protection
  • Polarised lenses for outdoor comfort
  • Photochromic (light-adaptive) lenses
  • Thinner and lighter lens materials
  • Blue light filtering options

Can every pair of glasses be reglazed?

Not always — but many can.

Before starting, we will will inspect your frames to make sure they’re suitable. Things like age, condition, material, and overall durability all play a part. Sometimes older frames become fragile over time, so we’ll always check first to make sure they can safely handle new lenses.

How does reglazing work?

It’s simpler than most people think:

  1. Bring in your existing glasses
  2. We’ll assess your frame condition
  3. Choose your new lenses (or frame) and options
  4. We fit your new lenses
  5. Pick up your refreshed glasses and enjoy clearer vision!

Is reglazing worth it?

If your frames still look great and feel comfortable, reglazing can be a smart way to refresh your glasses without replacing the entire pair. Because sometimes the best pair of glasses isn’t a new pair — it’s your favourite pair, made better.
